What is the Adoption Process?

We have clear adoption policies and requirements to help match our sweet dogs with loving homes.

Feel free to reach out to us.  We’re happy to answer any questions and explain the process.

You can also explore our website for more details, and if anything is unclear, Contact us!

STEP 1

APPLICATION AND
INTERVIEW

Once you’ve found a dog that captures your heart, you’ll need to fill out an adoption application. This application typically includes questions about your lifestyle, experience with pets, and your ability to provide a suitable home.

We also would be conducting an interview to make sure that you and the dog you would like to adopt are a good match.

STEP 2

ADOPTION FEE AND PAPERWORK

Upon approval of your application, you will be required to pay an adoption fee. This fee covers the cost of vaccinations, spaying/neutering, and other medical treatments the dog may have received. It also covers complete vetting of the dog meaning, medical vetting and medical paperwork to accompany the dog, flight costs, customs paperwork and fees, customs inspection fees, and porter fees. You will also need to sign adoption paperwork, outlining your commitment to providing proper care and attention to the dog.

STEP 3

POST-ADOPTION
SUPPORT

We guide training, behavior, and veterinary care. Take advantage of these resources to ensure a smooth transition and a lifelong bond with your new canine companion.

Our Adoption Fees

An important thing to keep in mind is that when you have decided to adopt a dog, you need to deposit  $300.00, and the balance is due on flight confirmation. This deposit is only refundable if we cannot deliver the dog to you.

Small Dogs - Up to 7kg

The price for adopting a small dog is $800.00 CDN.
This fee Includes CBSA Fees.

When you chose a dog, there is also an adoption form on the individual page of the dogs.

Senior Dogs

For senior dogs, $500.00 CDN.

Again, this fee Includes CBSA Fees.

NOTE: Currently, only small dogs are available for adoption outside of Mexico. While we’d love to place our larger and senior dogs in loving homes abroad, we’re currently limited to finding them homes within Mexico. Please check back with us in February 2024 or contact us any time.

Other Dogs

For other dogs, $650.00 CDN.

Where Does the Adoption Fee Go?

We do everything we can to ensure we keep our costs as low as possible. Here is what the adoption fee covers:

One flight and required vet papers for the dog to travel. The cost for an airline, whether the pet is on board or in the hold - flight costs vary from airline to airline.

Comprehensive veterinary care is provided before the dog is adopted, as well as spaying and neutering

Vaccination and Medical Record Book, which accompanies each dog in their travels

A pet carrier for travel. An additional $100 fee applies if you wish to keep the carrier.

On top of the fees involving the travel and preparation for the chosen dog to be adopted, the rest of the adoption fee goes right back into the shelter and the other dogs. It covers expenses like;

Water, Food for the dogs (we cook fresh food for our dogs), and veterinary care

Vaccines, sterilization, medication, tick and flea medication - regular check-ups

Water, Food for one staff member and volunteers

Supplies like dog houses, separate beds for each dog(no dog is kept in a kennel), bedding, leashes, and collars.

Transportation Costs

Gas for the vehicle
